Why You Can’t (and Shouldn’t) Grow a Business Alone

by | Apr 11, 2025 | Collaboration for Growth

When I first stepped into entrepreneurship, I believed I had to do it all—be the visionary, the executor, the marketing expert, the tech person, the everything. Sound familiar?

But the truth is, trying to do everything on your own doesn’t make you strong—it makes you stuck. If you’re trying to grow your business and live a joyful, fulfilling life, you need a team to support your business.

One of my favorite takeaways from Dan Sullivan’s Who Not How book is this powerful insight:

“Your goals should be so big that they scare you a little… and excite your team a lot.”

That quote flipped a switch for me. Because suddenly I realized: I don’t need all the answers—I just need the right people!

Here are 5 important reasons why having a team is essential to your business success—and your peace of mind:

1. A Team Brings Your Vision to Life

You may be the spark, but your team fans the flame. When you have the right business support system, your vision becomes a reality faster and with more impact. You stop getting stuck in the “how” and start moving forward with confidence.

2. You Can Stay in Your Zone of Genius

You were meant for more than spreadsheets and scheduling. Having a team lets you focus on your core strengths as an entrepreneur, while others shine in theirs. This creates not just a better business—but a happier, more energized YOU.

3. You Grow Faster and Smarter

Want to hit that next level? You need collaboration for business growth. A strong team brings fresh ideas, perspectives, and skills that expand your capacity and unlock bigger opportunities than you could ever achieve solo.

4. You’re No Longer Alone on the Hard Days

Let’s be real—business isn’t always smooth sailing. Having a team means having people to lean on when you’re overwhelmed, uncertain, or just plain tired. Emotional support is just as valuable as technical support.

5. You Build a Legacy, Not Just a Business

When you invite others into your mission, you’re not just building a company—you’re building a movement. With a team to support your business, you create impact that lasts far beyond what you could do alone.

Once I embraced the Who Not How mindset, everything changed. I started asking “Who can help me?” instead of “How do I do this myself?” And that one shift brought me peace, growth, and a whole lot more joy in both my business and my life.
